I am by nature a wanderer! I have always had an insatiable curiosity. The Wanderer was my line name when I pledged my sorority! I could never do like the old people say and keep my butt at home. My mother always encouraged my curiosity. There wasn’t a camp or activity that she didn’t put me in, if I was interested. So, I didn’t know boundaries. . . Sure, I knew not to get in the car or accept candy…
I absolutely love exploring with Baby Ruth. I was thrilled to check out Macaw Mountain because I have always loved birds. My grandfather and I used to feed the birds in our front yard when I was a little girl. The story of the bird park and nature reserve is an interesting one because it involves the interest and excesses of the expat community. The Scarlet Macaw is the national bird of Honduras and it is a glorious and…
I am a full time slow traveler with my daughter Ruth. I’m a black digital nomad. I LOVE discovering new places for Ruth and I to visit. I love the freedom and flexibility of our lifestyle. Fun fact: Ruth and I were supposed to be going to carnival in Trinidad and Tobago. But the universe has a different plan for us. When our friend @youfounddanhere, an experienced global traveler, said he was going to carnival in Barranquilla and invited us there, my…
My goal for this year is to visit every country in Central America with Baby Ruth. We took a microbus (a small shuttle bus) from Sunzal, El Salvador to Copán, Honduras. We had an amazing time in El Salvador and I didn’t know what to expect from Honduras. There was a woman on our shuttle bus who described Copán as like Antigua in Guatemala but cuter. I didn’t know it then, but I do now and that description is spot…
When I started this adventure, I had no idea where Ruth and I would end up. I had visions of places and countries in my head that I wanted us to visit but other than that, my plan was incomplete. El Salvador was nowhere on my list. But when you open yourself up to the powers of the universe, the universe will take you places you never imagined and you will be pleasantly surprised. Ruth and I spent the last…
We are currently slow traveling in San Pedro La Laguna, Guatemala. It is a small town of approx. 13,000 residents located on Lake Atitlan about 4 hours south of the capital, Guatemala City. Most of the residents are indigenous Mayans and speak the language Tz’utujil as their first language. Many older people speak no Spanish at all. The town is located at the base of San Pedro Volcano and that is where the city gets its name. The indigenous…
