When I started this adventure, I had no idea where Ruth and I would end up. I had visions of places and countries in my head that I wanted us to visit but other than that, my plan was incomplete.
El Salvador was nowhere on my list.
But when you open yourself up to the powers of the universe, the universe will take you places you never imagined and you will be pleasantly surprised.
Ruth and I spent the last week in Sunzal, El Salvador. It was the best gift the universe could have given us and I am forever thankful for my time in El Salvador.
I didn’t know what to expect from El Salvador. My knowledge of the country was extremely limited, but per my norm I was open. AND as you all know, I want Ruth to be open, so when a friend offered us an Airbnb in El Sunzal, we accepted the offer and I AM THRILLED that we did.
Sunzal is a small beach town close to El Tunco and about 45 minutes South of San Salvador.
What I really love about El Salvador is that it isn’t touristy. It is a place to go, eat good food, relax on the beach, swim/surf and enjoy the hot weather. I written a list of the top 10 things I love about this small but beautiful country
(1) It is the perfect place for bonding on the beach with your baby!
(2) AMAZINGLY fresh and delicious seafood!!!
(3) The people are warm friendly and helpful.
(4) The weather is HOT and I love hot weather.
(5) You can find places on the beach and sit all day and NOT be bothered. If you have been to places like Bali, you know how annoying it can be to be constantly bothered on the beach. I did not find this to be the case in Sunzal.
(6) Fresh coconut water!!! There is nothing more refreshing on a hot day than fresh coconut water and there was plenty to be found on the beaches of El Salvador.
(7) Pupusas!! You can’t come to El Salvador and NOT eat pupusas whenever and where ever possible. They are typically available for sale in the late afternoon and early evening and ARE everything they hype says they are. . .DELICIOUS and vegetarian options are available.
(8) Our airbnb was safe, secure, with a book and literally steps away from the beach
(9) It is affordable. You can live, eat and play well without breaking the bank!
(10) The history of this tiny country is something that everyone should learn about. There was a brutal civil war that lasted over 12 years and displaced Salvadorians all across the globe. The war is an important part of world history that has implications today.
