14 THINGS THAT RONA HAS TAUGHT ME OR AT LEAST REINFORCED

I get why monks self isolate. . . to be with themselves.  You can learn a lot ALONE.

But it is tough.  To be alone with your thoughts day in and day out is a motherfucka!

And they CHOSE it!

Those of us social distancing because of corvid19 didn’t chose this isolation!  It was forced on us and while I recognize that the way that I am able to social distance (lakeside with a beach and plenty of amazing food and wine) is a privilege, that doesn’t make it easy.

But I have used this time to really “get into my feelings” and here are a few things I have come to realize or re-realize:

1) Mother nature will always be Queen B.   I love Beyonce but MUTHA NATURE TRUMPS ALL! Her raft is speedy and mighty.  Our technology is no match.  She can literally stop the planet. The planet isn’t endangered.  Humans beings are ones facing extinction.  Her raft is speedy and mighty.  Our technology is no match.  She can literally stop the planet.

2) I love to write.  I always have but in adulthood I haven’t given myself the time, space or energy to devote to this craft.  The written word is truly glorious!

3) I love meals at home with my daughter.  I never considered myself a great cook.  I usually eat out or get take out, but I have TRULY enjoyed learning new and interesting recipes online and eating delicious meals with my daughter.

4) Keeping a routine is key to mental sanity.  I have found that keeping Ruth and I on a schedule makes the days go by quicker and gives my days an extra boost.

5) I need to be near water. Water speaks to my soul.  I find waking up every day near water keeps depression and anxiety at bay.

6) Birds chirping in the morning is a glorious sound.

7) Everyone should wake up to see the sunrise at least once a week.

8) Phones are one of the world’s greatest inventions EVER and WHATSAPP is the phone’s best LOVECHILD.  I’m so grateful that I can chat with my mother each and every day.  It is so important to stay connected with the people we love, especially during these difficult times.

9) People handle stress and anxiety differently and THAT is OKAY.  Learn to recognize the differences and respect  them.  Some of us are baking bread and building businesses and others are just trying to get out of bed.  Do what is right for YOU! You path is and will always be your own,

10). My daughter has an obsession with clean hands which makes her perfect for this day and age.  But that obsession is matched by an obsession to eat dirt.

11) Confinement does something to people.  You ever wonder how some people leave jail Malcom X and others leave and just become your broke ass cousin.  How will some of us come out of social isolation?

12)  Parents like myself who are potty training their toddlers during corvid19 social isolation should officially update their LinkedIn profession to “chambermaid.”  It most accurately reflects your day-to-day reality.

13) It is AMAZING how quickly new words can become apart of our lexicon – Social Distancing, Alternative Facts, CORVID19

14) Books are escape and ESCAPISM is ESSENTIAL! Our minds are beautiful.

Our thoughts are sacred dreams and to have the opportunity to be inside another human’s minds is a SACRAMENT.

Thank you to all the writers out there!

15) And finally, now, more than ever it is important to live the life you want to live on the terms you want to live them.  Does that mean it will be easy, NO.  Does that mean that things like corvid19 won’t happen?  Hell no. . .  but when you are living your truth, the universe unlocks a path for you.  Your job is to NOT give up and believe that you are enough, put in the work and move forward.
