Staying at home with a toddler is work!! Add on a highly successful consulting job, an online coaching business and an online course and my day is BUSY!!!!
And my Baby Ruth is 20 months of supercharged energy. Social Distancing means that we are home ALOT! So my I’m tasked with keeping Ruth busy while I work.
She doesn’t care that I’m on a call or up against a deadline, when Ruth wants attention, she wants it now.
Did I also mention we are potty training?
So it is important to have creative and fun activities to let Ruth explore all her different senses. Ruth and I both love the water. We are on the water as much as possible.
We love to collect sea shells on the beach, paddleboard, swim, and kayak. But, if I’m working those options are impossible and I need safe water activities for her to do on her own.
Water play activities have proven to be a wonderful solutions.
Every morning, I create a water play station to keep her entertained while I work. I found that filling buckets with water at various temperatures and letting her free play can keep her entertained long enough for me to complete a work call or write emails.
Often times, I add liquid Dawn soap to the water to create suds and add a different touch and texture for her to explore. Other times, I add ice.
The different temperatures and textures along with containers of different sizes and shapes allows all her different senses to be engaged and keeps her entertained.
If I finish work early, I join her and explain hot vs cold vs lukewarm or watch her discover what happens when we mix hot and cold water together.
I have made water play a part of her regular morning routine and she loves it.
