Traveling full-time with a toddler has its challenges, but doesn’t everyday with a toddler have challenges.  I compiled a list for my fellow single Black mothers who are traveling or abroad with little ones.

Enjoy the adventures, Mama!  You got this!

Here is my  list of 15 essential apps for single moms who are living lives as digital nomads with children:

1. Skype / FaceTime

A basic video calling app is a must to savor those precious moments with your children. For Apple devices, FaceTime is already in-built, its only downside is that both must have  Apple devices. If that is not the case, Skype is a better alternative.

2. Playground Buddy

This app is especially handy for single mothers abroad with their children. It locates playgrounds in localities near you and also has cool features like street view, bookmarking your favorite playgrounds, location sharing and getting directions. It has a database of over 200,000 playgrounds all over the world.

3. Find My Kids

Find My Kids is highly recommended for traveling parents. It uses Google Maps and can track your child. It comes in handy if you want to make sure your kids go to school or soccer practice even when you’re not home!

4. Family Time

It is a remote parental control app that monitors your children’s screen time, apps, and even has an in-built emergency alert if required.

5. Cozi

Cozi is a seamless app for digital nomads with kids to keep track of various events, errands, and tasks. It keeps the family calendar organized.

6. Peanut

It helps parents connect with other parents! Connect with other single moms abroad, and build the support system you need.

7. Mint

A finance tracker can’t hurt. Mint helps you to keep track of how much you are spending and can help a single mom abroad keep track of budgeting to save some extra cash.

8. In Case of Emergency App

It’s always better to be safe than sorry. The ICE app has contact information for emergency services everywhere you go, and can even help you reach emergency services back home while you’re away.

9. Rome2Rio

Rome2Rio is the most essential travel app for any single mom abroad. Simply enter two destinations, and the app will give you every possible way of traveling from ne to the other. It includes buses, cabs, the metro regional trains, and even Uber – with prices available to help you make the best choice.

10. Trekaroo

It is specifically designed for digital nomads with kids. The app finds kid-friendly activities, hotels, and restaurants, and also includes ratings and reviews from other parents.

11. Waze

Traffic can be a hurdle when you’re constantly traveling. Waze is an alternative to Google Maps that takes routes with lesser traffic by comparing the volume of users on roads.

12. TripIt

It automatically grabs details from e-mails regarding bookings and puts together an itinerary – simply sit back, and watch the app work its magic.

13. Viator

Viator helps you find organized tours and activities in every country, even kid-friendly ones, and includes reviews and ratings.

14. Uber

Abroad, public transport or city cabs are not always the safest – Uber gives you the driver’s information, helps you share live location, among other features. It is a safer and more convenient option as the map can help your drives with the location even if they don’t speak the same language.

15. Google Trip

Lastly, the trip planning app from Google not only organizes your trip, but also suggests activities nearby. It is a must-have.

With the above apps in your arsenal, a Black single mom abroad will feel a huge burden lifted off her shoulders– meaning more time to kick back and relax!
