HOW TO MOISTURIZE YOUR NATURAL HAIR

How to Moisturize Your Natural Hair for a Long Flight

Our natural hair is naturally parched.

Why?

The sebum that is produced by our scalp is not able to travel to the ends of our hair and coat it. Therefore, the older hair (specifically the ends] receives none of the nourishment [moisture and protein]. This can result in your hair become dry, frizzy, and prone to breakage.

The best way to moisture your hair for a long flight so that it stays moisturized throughout the entire flight is through the LOC Method. This is a moisturization technique for naturalistas that allow the moisture to penetrate the hair shaft. As well as, to stay in there for an extended period whether you are rocking a hairstyle or taking a flight. The products used are identified in the letters of the acronym.

Here’s how to do the LOC method:

L – liquid
The first step is to apply the liquid to your hair.

The liquid is the moisturizer for your hair. The best liquid option to make is water, also called H20. Water is unfiltered and unprocessed, so you are getting the richest minerals being attached to the hair strand. The H20 molecules will attach to the different sections of your hair strands. Ensure to spritz your hair thoroughly so that each hair strand gets H20. Work in the water using the ‘praying hands’ method so that each hair strand is evenly coated.

Other alternatives are 1. Coconut Water, 2. Aloe Vera Juice

O – Oil

Next, we follow up with a lightweight oil of your choice.
Welcome to our science class where we’re here to tell you that water and oil don’t mix. If you were to ever pour the two into a container, the oil will find its way to the top. Similarly, it sits on top of the water molecules on our hair strands. Hence, it seals it in. The oil prevents water from escaping thus keeping the hydration locked in. A lightweight oil should be used as it has great sealing properties. In addition, it will not weigh down your hair while you are at the highest altitude in the air.

Recommended Lightweight Oils: Coconut Oil, Olive Oil, Jojoba Oil, Almond Oil

C – Cream

And the final step is to apply the cream.
The cream will act as a double sealant and prevent any moisture from leaving as it locks in the hydration from the liquid. It also coats the hair strands with its form of nourishment. This includes adding strength and shine to your tresses. The cream of choice is grapeseed butter. It is a lightweight cream that will not keep your curls weighed down while you are jet setting. It will keep the moisture locked in for a long time.

As you can see the LOC method is a bit different when you are taking flight. Why? Well, you are going to a different altitude or temperature is the sky. Also, you are staying there for a long time. You don’t want to be too heavy so that all the moisture finds a way to escape. Nor do you want to do too little which may result in frizz. Hence, it must be just right.
