In this article, you’ll learn the ten tools every black digital nomad needs. This list isn’t exhaustive, but it will get you started.
But before that, let’s understand what a digital nomad is…because I get asked this question ALOT.
Who is a Digital Nomad?
A digital nomad is a professional who works from their computer mainly online and therefore does not need to be present in a particular office, city, or country.
Such persons can work anywhere in the world, as long as they have a good internet connection. Some common examples of nomads are copywriters, photographers, and designers.
As you can see, the digital nomadic lifestyle consists of two aspects:
· make money on the internet.
· travel or move from one place to another.
This means that not everyone who works remotely is automatically a digital nomad. They also need the nomadic part. On the other hand, long-term travelers who do local jobs are also not expats and not digital nomads.
What are the tools that digital nomads work with?
They may vary tremendously, but here are some basics items every black digital nomad needs. So, let’s dive in
1. Travel Bag
Being a black digital nomad means you’ll have to “leave your country and follow your dreams.” That means you’ll have to move from places to places doing what you love. For this reason, you’ll need a reliable and robust travel bag to pack your belongings to the destination of your choice.
2. Electronics Organizer
As a digital nomad, there’s a possibility that you will be traveling with some of your gadgets and accessories like your smartphone charger. It’s quite easy to misplace your electronic devices, so it’s recommended that you get an electronics organizer to keep your gadgets safe and organized.
3. Headphones
As a digital nomad, there’s a possibility that you’ll work in public places, so having a headphone around will be a great idea. You may also want to listen to podcasts or chat on a conference call for work purposes.
Imagine your phone or laptop going off in the middle of a webinar? You know how frustrating it is, right? Without a charged device, there’s little you can do. So, it’s crucial to have a portable charger around as a digital nomad.
5. Portable External Hard Drive
An external hard drive is an excellent way to back up your files. Your laptop may crash one day. What do you do when such happens? As a black digital nomad, you need to be prepared for the worst and hope for the best. If you also run out of space in your PC, you can move some of those files to your hard drive.
6. Hotspot
Show me a digital nomad without internet access, and I’ll show you an unserious fellow. The internet is what makes an individual a “Digital” nomad. While hotels and libraries may offer free Wi-Fi, you may need to have a portable hotspot device at other times. Even though smartphones nowadays have a hotspot, you may need the actual device for better connectivity and faster browsing speed.
7. Digital Camera
If you’re a digital nomad, you may need to capture some memorable moments. When you visit places like Paris, you may need to take beautiful photographs with the Eiffel Tower. Apart from taking pictures of places, you may need to take photos with people you’ll meet while traveling or enjoying a chilly day at the beach.
8. Sleep Kit
When you’re always on the road doing what you love best, it can be challenging to keep up with sleep. With a sleep kit, you can enjoy comfort and peace of mind. A typical sleep kit comes with a neck pillow, earplugs, eye mask, and more to help you “journey to the dreamland” while in transit.
9. Hydro Flask Water Bottles
You can’t do much if you’re dehydrated. Besides, you can’t trust tap water. That’s why I recommend you get a Hydro Flask water bottle to keep your water fresh and clean.
What’s life without “life” on your phone? Even though you may have your charger with you, where will you get power from if you are not in an area where there’s power? That’s where power banks come into play. Get one of at least 20,000mAh, and you’ll be fine.
These are ten must-have items you need to have as a black digital nomad. I believe you are better prepared to plan your digital nomad life. Congratulations!!!
